Roundup: Pedestrian hurt in hit-and-run, beaches reopen
Here's a roundup of recent incidents and announcements from Ventura County agencies:
Witnesses sought in Santa Paula hit-and-run
A pedestrian sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run traffic incident in Santa Paula late Tuesday night, city police said.
The man in his 30s was trying to cross Harvard Boulevard at the intersection with Palm Avenue when he was struck around 11 p.m., police said in a release issued Wednesday. The person who hit him was driving east on Harvard in a white sport utility vehicle, failed to stop after the crash and continued driving east on Harvard, the police investigation showed.
The victim was treated by paramedics and transported to County Medical Center in Ventura and hospitalized.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it is asked to contact Detective Hector Ramirez at 805-525-4474, ext. 211 or hramirez@spcity.org.
Beaches reopen after sewage spill
About a dozen beach areas closed in the wake of a large sewage discharge tied to the early January storms have reopened, county officials announced late Wednesday.
Around 14 million gallons of sewage entered the Ventura River from Jan. 10-12, compromising ocean water quality at the beaches.
Following tests that showed the ocean water meets state standards, county environmental health officials said the following beach locations are now open: Mondos Cove Beach, Solimar Beach, Emma Wood State Beach, Surfer's Point at Seaside, Promenade Park Beach at Figueroa Street and Redwood Apartments, San Buenaventura State Beach at California Street, Dover Lane and Weymouth Lane, Marina Park Beach, Peninsula Beach/Harbor Cove and Surfer's Knoll Beach.
San Buenaventura State Beach at Kalorama Street and Sanjon Road remains closed because the two locations continue to exceed state standards for bacteria. These locations are due to be retested Jan. 30.
The Ojai Valley Sanitary District said two critical sewer lines were damaged by storms. The district completed temporary repairs and stopped the ongoing release of sewage Jan. 12, county officials said.
