Roundup: Ribbing hits Licking Heights baseball past Utica

Kaleb Ribbing pounded a home run and two doubles, scoring twice and totaling five RBI on Thursday, fueling the Licking Heights baseball team in a 10-4 victory at Utica in Licking County League play.

Ben Pennington had two hits, including a double, and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot, and Eli Hickman added a hit and two runs scored and Caanan Eurez a double, a run scored and an RBI for the Hornets (2-4, 2-1). Devin Burke struck out nine and allowed four hits and two earned runs in five innings.

Roman Gamble had two hits and a run scored, Gavin Tussey a hit and a run scored and Hayden Piper a run scored for Utica (5-4, 1-4).

Lakewood wins at home

Trey Smith fired a four-hitter, pitching Lakewood to a 4-1 victory against visiting Zanesville (2-5, 0-4) in LCL play.

Smith struck out two for the Lancers (2-6, 2-3). William Marrero doubled and scored two runs, and Noah Blade added a hit and two RBI and Peyton Tichenor a hit and a run scored.

GCA blanks Liberty

Joe Benvie struck out 10 and allowed three hits in five innings, pitching Granville Christian to a 17-0 victory against visiting Liberty Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Bentley Johnson totaled two hits, two runs scored and three RBI to lead the Lions (3-2, 2-1), who broke the game open with a 12-run fourth inning. Benvie added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, Brendon Austin three runs scored and Jake Keiser a hit and two runs scored.

Luke Mollohan, Mason Kamppi and James Rainier each singled for the Eagles (1-4, 1-2).

Watkins beats Johnstown

Trace Hartman had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI, leading a balanced attack for Watkins Memorial in a 12-0 victory at Johnstown in LCL play.

Michael Olson added two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored, Nate Younker, a double, two runs scored and two RBI and Ethan Ryan a double and two runs scored for the Warriors (6-2, 2-0). Connor Parsons struck out six in four two-hit innings.

Justin LaRochelle and Jacob Myers each singled for the Johnnies (3-2-1, 2-2), and Julian McCann struck out three in 1 1/3 innings.

Granville wins at Northridge

Cam Harris totaled three hits, including a double, two runs scored and two RBI for Granville in a 12-4 victory at Northridge in LCL play.

Dylan Kale added two hits, a run scored and two RBI, Ezra Kurek two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Will Munhall three runs scored for the Blue Aces (6-1, 3-1). Connor Hare struck out four and allowed two hits in three scoreless innings.

Nolan Laslo had three hits, a run scored and an RBI, Lee Davis a hit, a run scored and two RBI and Tommy Diamond a hit and an RBI for the Vikings (0-6, 0-4). Quentin Felhofer struck out seven and allowed two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Newark nips Reynoldsburg

Tyler Flint's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Newark a 3-2 victory against visiting Reynoldsburg in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Max Durbin led off the game with a solo home run and scored ahead of Thomas Olon on Flint's clutch hit as that trio combined for all five hits. Jayce Dansby struck out two in four three-hit innings, and Owen Poole struck out five in three two-hit innings for the first-place Wildcats (6-1, 4-0).

SOFTBALL

Lakewood outscores Zanesville

Kara Nethers was a perfect 3-for-3, scoring a run and driving in two, powering Lakewood to a 12-10 victory against visiting Zanesville (1-4, 0-4) in LCL play.

Dani Stewart had two hits, including a triple, and three runs scored out of the leadoff spot for the Lancers (7-3, 3-2), and Emma McLean added a triple and four RBI, Katie Barton two hits, including a double, a run scored and three RBI and Ashley Poling a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Autumn Blankenship allowed two runs in four innings.

Rauch untouched for Heights

Lydia Rauch threw a five-inning perfect game, striking out two for Licking Heights in a 17-0 victory at Utica (1-7, 1-4) in LCL play.

Alissa West piled up five hits, including three doubles, two runs scored and six RBI for the Hornets (3-4, 2-3). Kaylyn Hopf and Rauch each had three hits and three runs scored, combining for three RBI, and Amber Ramey added two hits, three runs scored and two RBI and Carly Bennett two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Granville wins on road

Emily Travis hit two home runs, scoring four runs and driving in three for Granville in a 13-3 victory at Northridge in LCL play.

Megan Lodge totaled three hits, a run scored and two RBI, Alyssa Guglielmi three hits, a run scored and three RBI and Morgan Layne a double, two runs scored and an RBI for the Blue Aces (4-2, 4-2). Ally Ernsberger struck out nine and allowed four hits.

Kenzie Hannahs had a hit, a run scored and two RBI for the Vikings (2-3, 2-3), and Addison Moore, Halleigh Carter and Taylor Kistler each had a hit.

Newark falls

A 12-run first inning for host Pickerington Central sent Newark to a 20-8 loss in OCC-Buckeye play.

Brooklyn Nelson had three hits, three runs scored and an RBI for the Wildcats (2-7, 0-1). Dez Osler added two hits, a run scored and two RBI, Meah Morris a double, a run scored and three RBI and Sarah Sickels a hit and an RBI.

BOYS TENNIS

Watkins nips Bexley

Elijah Hargrow and Zach Clouse won a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to give unbeaten Watkins Memorial a 3-2 victory against Bexley.

Josh Hare, 6-1, 6-1, and Liam Grennan, 6-4, 6-1, won singles matches for the Warriors (6-0).

Newark edged by rival

Evan Devries and Austin Iden picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-4, for Newark (2-2) in a 4-1 loss at Zanesville.
