Roundup: Scott strikes out 15 for Ragsdale in opener

Apr. 29—JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale got off to a hot start, beating Page 6-2 in Metro 4A Conference baseball Tuesday at Ragsdale.

Julian Abreu went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Tigers (1-0), who led 6-0 through two innings. Win Scott went 2 for 2 with an RBI while Chase Gurney went 2 for 3. Evan Cullis and Sam Ross each had a hit and an RBI.

Scott got the win on the mound, striking out 15 in six innings. Nick Horkey struck out two in pitching the final inning.

HP CHRISTIAN, GREENSBORO DAY

HIGH POINT — High Point Christian beat Greensboro Day 4-2 in PTAC baseball Tuesday on Senior Day at Oak View Baptist Church.

Eli Crump was 2 for 3 with three runs for the Cougars (16-4 overall, 9-0 conference), while Noah Hill had a key two-run double in the sixth inning to give HPCA the lead.

Carter Bass and Bryson King each had a hit and an RBI, while Luke Homol and Cosie Pagano had a hit apiece. Crump (4-1) got the complete-game win on the mound, striking out six while scattering four hits.

SW GUILFORD, NORTH IREDELL

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford held off North Iredell 6-5 in nonconference baseball Tuesday at Southwest.

Tanner Moore went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to key the Cowboys (1-0), who led 4-0 through four innings but trailed 5-4 in the top of the sixth before scoring two in the bottom half to regain the lead.

Joe Specht had a hit and two RBIs, while Easton Morgan and Andrew Stephens each drove in one run. Morgan got the win on the mound, striking out nine in six innings, before Hunter Whitten came on for the save.

OAK GROVE, GLENN

MIDWAY — Oak Grove topped Glenn 5-4 in nonconference baseball Tuesday at Oak Grove.

Nathan Kidder went 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI for the Grizzlies (1-0), while Kaden Swaim added a hit and an RBI and Ethan Yarbrough chipped in three walks and two runs.

Michael Peele had a triple, two runs and an RBI for the Bobcats (1-1), while Maddox Perez added a double and an RBI and Garrett Horn had a hit.

Brennan Hord got the win on the mound, while Carmine Lancaster took the loss.

SOUTHERN GUILFORD, TRINITY

GREENSBORO — Southern Guilford rolled past Trinity 13-3 in six innings Tuesday in nonconference baseball at Southern.

Clay Edmondson homered to highlight the Storm (1-0), who led 7-1 through three innings.

Cade Hill got the win on the mound, striking out five in three innings, before Edmondson and Conway McCoury — who each struck out three — went the rest of the way.

TW ANDREWS, JORDAN-MATTHEWS

SILER CITY — T.W. Andrews fell 16-4 against Jordan-Matthews in PAC-7 2A baseball Tuesday at Jordan-Matthews.

It was the first game of the season for the Red Raiders.

HP CENTRAL, GRIMSLEY

GREENSBORO — High Point Central lost 27-5 against Grimsley in Metro 4A Conference baseball Tuesday at Grimsley.

It was the first game of the season for the Bison.

WESTCHESTER CD, CALDWELL

GREENSBORO — Westchester Country Day fell 10-0 in six innings Tuesday against Caldwell in PTAC baseball at Caldwell.

Austin Melton doubled for the Wildcats (6-5 overall, 5-4 conference), who trailed 7-0 through three innings. Bryce Hooker and Tate Vogler each added a hit.

Caleb Hammond, who struck out four in three innings, and Grayson Chapman pitched for Westchester.

THOMASVILLE, SOUTH DAVIDSON

DENTON — Thomasville swept a doubleheader against South Davidson in nonconference baseball Tuesday at South, winning 12-5 and 13-10.

Janhri Luckey went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Bulldogs in the opener. Reece Payne added two hits and two RBIs, while Zach Lewis and Avery Adams each had two hits and one RBI, and Elliott Graham had one hit and two RBIs to highlight the offense.

Adams struck out seven on the mound in the complete-game win.

Adams then had two hits and three runs to lead Thomasville in the second game. Luckey, Graham, Payne and Callicutt each added a hit. Payne picked up the win in one inning of relief, as four pitchers combined for the victory.

EAST DAVIDSON, WEST DAVIDSON

TYRO — East Davidson edged past West Davidson 5-3 in 12 innings Tuesday in nonconference baseball at West.

Tyler Welch went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Golden Eagles (1-0), while Josh Faircloth added two hits and an RBI, Brannon Williamson had two hits and two runs, and Brock Welch had two hits.

Badin Gusa got the win on the mound while Tripp Beck picked up the save.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, SOUTH STOKES

WALNUT COVE — Bishop McGuinness lost 9-2 against South Stokes in Northwest 1A Conference baseball Tuesday at South Stokes.

It was the first game of the season for the Villains.

WHEATMORE, RANDLEMAN

TRINITY — Wheatmore fell 14-2 against Randleman in PAC-7 2A baseball at Wheatmore.

It was the first game of the season for the Warriors.

SOFTBALL LEDFORD, NORTH DAVIDSON

WELCOME — Fourth-seeded Ledford lost 11-3 against top-seeded North Davidson on Tuesday at North in the semifinals of the Central Carolina 2A Conference softball tournament.

Juli Motsinger had a hit and two RBIs while Chloe Everhart doubled for the Panthers (7-6). Haylee Smith and Averee Atkins each added a hit.

Everhart took the loss in the circle.

OAK GROVE, CENTRAL DAVIDSON

MIDWAY — Second-seeded Oak Grove lost 3-2 against third-seeded Central Davidson on Tuesday at Oak Grove in the semifinals of the Central Carolina 2A Conference softball tournament.

The Grizzlies dropped to 10-4 overall.

HP CHRISTIAN, FORSYTH CD

LEWISVILLE — High Point Christian fell 10-9 against Forsyth Country Day in softball Tuesday at Forsyth Country Day.

Laci Jarrell went 4 for 5 with two doubles for the Cougars (7-5). Mary Douglas Hayworth went 3 for 5 while Lexi Hall went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs.

Maci Burkhart went 2 for 4 with three RBIs while Rachel Davis was also 2 for 4.

Hall took the loss in the circle.

GLENN, EAST FORSYTH

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn lost 12-2 in five innings Tuesday against East Forsyth at East in the Central Piedmont 4A Conference softball tournament.

Sydney Parsons went 2 for 3 while Mary Morini had a double and Erika Clinard singled for the Ladycats (3-10 overall, 2-6 CPC). Clinard took the loss in the circle, striking out two in 4 1/3 innings.

LEWISVILLE — High Point Christian fell 2-0 against Forsyth Country Day in PTAC girls soccer Tuesday at Forsyth Country Day.

The Cougars, who trailed 1-0 at halftime, dropped to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

GREENSBORO — Westchester Country Day lost 6-0 to Greensboro Day in PTAC girls soccer Tuesday at GDS.

The Wildcats, who trailed 2-0 at halftime, fell to 2-7 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn lost 9-0 against R.J. Reynolds in Central Piedmont 4A Conference girls soccer Tuesday at Glenn.

The Ladycats, who fell behind 6-0 into halftime, dropped to 0-12 overall and 0-9 in the conference.

GREENSBORO — Westchester Country Day lost 9-0 against Greensboro Day in PTAC boys tennis Tuesday at GDS.

It was the final regular-season match for the Wildcats.

DENTON — Thomasville's boys totaled a team score and won with 85 points in Tuesday's track meet at South Davidson.

Winners for the Bulldogs were: Cameron Walker (100m, 11.3; 200m, 23.2), Jalan Sanders (300 hurdles, 51.4); Quincy McDonald (discus, 105 feet), Malcolm Knight (triple jump, 41-5), CJ Dickerson (high jump, 5-8) and the 4x100 relay for the boys; and Faith Thompson (discus, 67-5; shot put, 31-01) for the girls.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER WESTCHESTER CD, GREENSBORO DAY

GREENSBORO — Westchester Country Day fell 2-1 against Greensboro Day in girls soccer Tuesday at GDS.

Zoe Georgiadis scored on a penalty kick for the Wildcats.

ADVANCE — High Point Christian took third while Westchester Country Day tied for fourth in Tuesday's conference match at Bermuda Run West.

Greensboro Day won with a 142, trailed by Caldwell (167), HPCA (168), Westchester and Forsyth Country Day (each with 184), and Calvary Day (188).

Thomas Brinson and Ben Covington each shot a 45 to lead Westchester, followed by Harriss Covington with a 46 and Grey Lunnen with a 48.
