Roundup: Swonger picks up RBI for Licking County Settlers in loss to Xenia Scouts

The Licking County Settlers led 2-1 after one inning Sunday, but a pair of two-run innings allowed the visiting Xenia Scouts take the lead and pull away for a 9-3 victory in Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League play at Heath High School.

Newark graduate Logan Swonger had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and added a second hit later. Licking Valley graduate Logan White matched Swonger with two hits, hitting a double and scoring a run for the Settlers, who also received three hits and a run scored from Adam Crawford out of the leadoff spot.

Brian Pirone struck out five and allowed one run in four innings to lead the Settlers (8-8) on the mound.

Licking County, which visits the Hamilton Joes on Monday, begins a five-game, four-day homestand when the Joes visit for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday at Denison. The Settlers also host a game at 7 p.m. Wednesday, a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Thursday and a game at 4 p.m. Friday.
