Dec. 15—BROOKFIELD — In the preseason Brookfield High boys' basketball Coach Shawn Hammond predicted Campbell Memorial to be one of the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference's better cage contingents. Tuesday night, the Warriors were victimized by the dominating Red Devils.

Led by Kevin Moore's game-high 24-point, 6-rebound, 4-assist line the visiting Red Devils dominated Brookfield, 82-49, in an MVAC Gray Tier Division contest.

Campbell Memorial (5-1) surpassed the 80-point plateau for the 3rd time this season with the wire-to-wire win over the Warriors: 26-15 after the 1st frame, 46-29 by the break, and 72-44 through 3 periods.

"We're excited about this group," admitted 6th-year Campbell Coach Nick Canterino. "We've got eight seniors who kind've lead the way, plus a couple young guys who get some minutes. ... We've got some guys who can play, they like each other, and it's just a fun atmosphere for us.

"With our intensity, I'm really excited about 'em. They bring the intensity every day," continued Canterino. "The kids play hard every game, 'cause they know there's people on the bench who'll come in and play hard, and that really drives us."

Against Brookfield, Campbell coerced 21 miscues and 41% shooting (21 for 51).

Early on the tilt was tied at 7. But by the time Hammond hailed a time-out with 4:57 remaining to intermission the Red Devils had darted to a 37-17 lead.

Xavion Leonard lent 13 points and 4 rebounds and Kayvon Moore mustered 11 markers as double-digit Red Devils' scorers. Also, Christen James and Isaiah McCray contributed 9 and 8 points, respectively, and Jameer Weaver went for 7 points and dished out 4 dimes.

Most impressive, Campbell committed just 8 turnovers.

"We've had one game this year where we really hurt ourselves — our highest (turnover count) was fifteen," Canterino recalled. "We're usually around the ten area, and when you turn the ball over only ten times and you play as fast as we do, we put a lot of shots up. And we shoot a pretty good percentage, so we like our chances when we don't turn the ball over."

Campbell connected on 29 of 57 floor shots (50.8%) and converted 18 of 26 freebies, led by Weaver's 7-for-8 marksmanship.

Brookfield (2-2) was paced by Donovan Pawlowski's 17-point, 5-rebound, 4-assist performance, while Isaiah Jones joined him with a 12-point, 11-rebound double- double, plus 3 blocked shots. Also, Josh Solida scored 10.

Canterino said 6-foot-5 silky senior Kevin Moore — who connected on 10 of 16 field-goal attempts, including a trio of treys — has received interest from University of Mount Union and LaRoche and Westminster colleges.

"He's just a very skilled kid. We put him in a lot of different situations — we like to put him in the high post against a zone; we like him outside 'cause he can see over the zone. Just a very skilled player, and I'm excited to have him on our team," Canterino praised.

"We've been expecting this group. We kind've saw when they were in eighth grade we saw the classes below them and this class, and we really thought we could have something special goin' on this year," Canterino concluded. "So far, so good. It's a long way to go, but we like the contributions we're getting out of a lot of kids, so we're excited about it."
