Roundup: Watkins Memorial cross country teams win at Licking Heights

Scarlett Loevenguth and Adam Brazier won individual titles for the Watkins Memorial cross country teams Saturday during the Licking Heights Invitational. They also each led their respective Warriors to the team victories.

Following Loevenguth's time of 20:02.71 for champion Watkins was Emily Whitmer in second (20:31.62), Cameryn Wheeler fifth (22:14.76), Ava Wandersleben 10th (24:03.90) and Taylor Susil 13th (24:19.75).

Addison Caudill fourth (20:49.84), Morgan Watkins sixth (23:20.65), Katelyn Trotto 11th (24:05.88) and Marin Lawrence 12th (24:14.48) led runner-up Heights. Ela Valenzuela eighth (23:47.59) and Violet Caton ninth (24:03.49) led third-place Newark Catholic.

Following Brazier's time of 17:49.66 was Conner Black in fifth (18:48.20), Liam Grennan sixth (18:53.91), Robert Cisek seventh (19:01.20) and Trevor Mettle ninth (19:18.60) for champion Watkins.

Liberty Christian's Carson Crabtree placed third (18:29.17). Logan Summers placed fourth (18:34.20) for runner-up Heights, and Drew Fischer placed eighth (19:02.58) and Chris Geiger 12th (19:32.82) for third-place NC.

Granville boys take runner-up

Elias Kretchmar ran a time of 17:00.3, placing third and leading Granville to a runner-up finish in the Cardinal Division during the Westerville North XC Classic.

Owen Kirkham followed in fifth (17:39.6), Andrew Harms sixth (17:44.9), Cohen Stump 10th (18:01.0) and Callum Sproul 11th (18:01.6) for the Blue Aces, who totaled 35 points and finished just five behind Canal Winchester.

Heath's Tucker See placed fourth (17:11.2), and Jacob Elam took ninth (17:56.9). In the girls race, Heath's Ally Stephens finished 38th (24:08.8).

Granville girls take third

Zoee Lehman ran a time of 18:32.8 to take third place and lead Granville to a third-place finish during the Hot Summer Bash at Hilliard Davidson.

Lillian Eckels followed in 13th (19:03.1), Ella Johnson 16th (19:16.6), Kara Bergeron 25th (20:11.7) and Anne Weis 39th (20:28.0).

Utica's Baker places sixth

Camryn Baker ran a time of 20:26.50 to race into sixth place for Utica during the Highland Flying Scots CC Invitational.

Johnstown's Reece Savage followed in 15th (21:21.54), Northridge's Albree Ashbrook 21st (22:02.03), Cheyanne Severance 31st (22:37.45), Dixie Ashbrook 37th (23:02.23) and Sarah Koker 39th (23:04.69) and Utica's Josie Mueller 43rd (23:15.94).

In the boys race, Northridge's Braden Yutzy placed eighth (17:11.18), Utica's Stephen Epps 11th (17:26.58), Johnstown's Brenden Ball 17th (17:38.65) and Cameron Beverick 21st (17:56.78), Northridge's Logan Knerr 43rd (18:33.95), Utica's Brayden Ricketts 46th (18:40.30) and Johnstown's Mathew Cherry 48th (18:43.41).

Watkins blanks Newark

Bo Howard scored a pair of goals, sparking Watkins Memorial in a 5-0 victory at Newark (1-5).

Ethan Caugherty added a goal and an assist, Josh Hare and Andy Sanchez a goal apiece and Ryland Owens and Parker Miconi an assist apiece for the Warriors (2-2-1). Jonny Murphy made four saves.

VOLLEYBALL

NC sweeps

Kylie Gibson and Jillian Given combined for 27 assists, leading Newark Catholic to a victory against visiting Cambridge, 25-13, 25-10, 25-9.

Ava Gummer added 11 kills and three aces, Erin Keck three aces and four blocks and Natalie Harrington six kills for the Green Wave (5-0).

Watkins wins at home

Murphy Boyd piled up 17 kills and three aces, fueling Watkins Memorial in a victory against visiting Westerville North, 25-11, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20.

Elise Adelman added 15 kills and 32 assists, McKayla Jellison eight kills, Mya Jackson four aces and 11 assists and Jamisen Justice 17 digs for the Warriors (6-3).

Utica falls

Emma Kimpel totaled four kills, two aces and 18 digs for Utica in a loss at East Knox, 25-21, 25-18, 25-23.

Emilee Ellis added four aces and 12 assists, Abby Buchanan and Ellie Boggs six kills apiece and Carlie Parsons four kills for Utica (2-6).

Valley drops home match

Daizi Hardbarger made 20 digs for Licking Valley in a loss to visiting Fredericktown, 25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 25-12.

Cassie Orr added 10 kills, Emily Bone 17 assists and Sophia Stokes and Makala Bennett two aces apiece for the Panthers (1-7).

BOYS GOLF

Granville takes runner-up

Carter Budreau fired a 73, tying for medalist honors and taking second overall, leading Granville to a runner-up finish during the 17-team Dover Invitational at Oak Shadows.

The Blue Aces totaled 330, finishing just three shots behind Indian Valley. Sam Pfau followed with a 77 to tie for third.
