Roundup of Week 10 playoff games for South Jersey high school football

The Maple Shade High School football team is going to the sectional final.

Erasing an early 12-point deficit, Ryan Mulcahy scored a pair of touchdowns and Thomas Kaliamouris’ pick-6 powered the Wildcats to a 27-18 win at Asbury Park in the semifinal round of the South Jersey Group 1 tournament.

Third-seeded Maple Shade (9-2) will play for the program’s first-ever sectional title next weekend. The Wildcats will await Saturday’s Shore-Woodbury winner for a chance to make history.

Quarterback Nate Veasey’s touchdown run gave Maple Shade its first lead at 14-12, but Asbury answered to retake the lead.

Mulcachy snared a tipped ball in the end zone for he go-ahead score, putting the Wildcats ahead 21-18.

Kaliamouris’s pick-6 added some insurance before AJ Cintron’s pick with 3:30 left in regulation sealed the victory.

Central Jersey Group 1

Paulsboro 15, Woodstown 6: Big Red rattled off 15 unanswered points to turn a six-point deficit into a trip to the sectional final.

Fourth-seeded Paulsboro (6-4), winners of three straight and six of its last seven, will await Saturday’s Glassboro/Salem winner for a championship showdown next weekend.

The Raiders, who avenged an 18-0 loss to Woodstown on Sept. 9, ended the scoreless streak against the Wolverines at six quarters when Preston Moore entered the end zone from four years out.

Quarterback Rocco Pellegrini added some insurance when he connected with Jamile Gantt on a 35-yard touchdown play in the fourth quarter.

Central Jersey Group 2

Upsets played a big role in this section as the top two seeds and the two squad that played for the Group 2 regional crown last season were bounced in the semifinal round.

Gloucester 14, Haddonfield 13: The third-seeded Lions knocked off the defending sectional champion thanks to a special teams' touchdown.

Trailing 13-7 in the fourth quarter, Gloucester blocked a punt and returned the football for a tying touchdown. Chris Ruggieri booted the go-ahead extra point.

Gloucester advanced to its sixth sectional final and will seek its first-ever title. The Lions (8-2) will host fourth-seeded Willingboro (5-5) in the championship next Friday.

Willingboro 50, Point Pleasant Boro 30: The fourth-seeded Chimeras knocked off defending sectional champion and top-seeded Point Pleasant Boro, which had its unbeaten streak snapped at nine.

South Jersey Group 5

Kingsway 41, Cherokee 14: Nate Maiers threw for three scores and rushed for a fourth to power the defending sectional champion Dragons back into the title game, knocking off the visiting Chiefs in dominating fashion.

Second-seeded Kingsway (7-3) will return to the field it captured last year’s title when it travels to top-seeded Toms River North. Last year, the Dragons knocked off the Mariners 21-14 to win the SJ Group 5 crown.

Maiers opened the scoring with a short 1-yard QB sneak in the first quarter, but it was his 86-yard touchdown strike to Benny Liles later in the quarter gave Kingsway a 14-7 lead.

Darrell Brown scored a pair of touchdowns, including one of a screen pass that turned into a 40-yard score.

Central Jersey Group 5

Lenape 21, Atlantic City 20: Zyaire Goffney-Fleming’s 31-yard touchdown tied the game and Ethan Blackburn booted the decisive extra-point with 3:58 left in regulation as top-seeded Lenape prevailed over the visiting Vikings.

Lenape (6-4) will host sixth-seeded Edison (8-3) in next Friday's title game. Edison eliminated second-seeded North Brunswick, 33-31.

Goffney-Fleming finished with 182 rushing yards and three touchdowns. It was his seventh 100-yard-plus rushing performance in eight games played this season and raised his rushing TD total to 14.

South Jersey Group 4

Hammonton 27, Shawnee 16: Kenny Smith rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns as the Blue Devils upended the Renegades, who had won the previous three postseason showdowns.

Millville 34, Jackson Memorial 16: Jacob Zamot threw a pair of touchdown passes, raising his playoff total to seven, as the Thunderbolts advanced to the title game for the second straight season.

Demeire White ran for two touchdowns and Jamal Wallace Jr. rushed for another score to power the Millville offense.

Central Jersey Group 4

Mainland 34, Long Branch 20: Stephen Ordille ran for three touchdowns and Ja’briel Mace and Cohen Cook added rushing TDs as the Mustangs checked into the sectional final.

Third-seeded Mainland (9-1), winners of eight straight, will travel to top-seeded Middletown South next weekend.

Middletown South 24, Winslow 10

Central Jersey Group 3

Camden 25, Cedar Creek 0: Jahleer Stanley rushed for a pair of touchdowns, quarterback Deante Ruffin had a rushing TD and the Panthers posted their second consecutive shutout of the postseason.

Seneca 29, Highland 28: Behind a strong performance by backup quarterback Colin Walsh, the Golden Eagles came from behind to defeat the Tartans.

Seneca (10-0) will continue its quest for the program's first-ever sectional title when it hosts second-seeded Camden (9-1) in next Friday's championship.

The junior was forced to play when starting QB Brayden Davis was sidelined with a shoulder injury, and he stepped up in a big way.

With 6:20 to go in the fourth quarter, Walsh found Kyle Stickel on a 9-yard touchdown pass to put his team up 29-28.

On Highland’s ensuing drive, Walsh broke up a fourth-down pass attempt to essentially end the game.

South Jersey Group 3

Delsea 49, Eastside 14: Wayne Adair ran for 125 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first quarter alone as the top-seeded Crusaders stormed out of the gates and never looked back in their win over fifth-seeded Eastside.

Adair finished with 9 carries for 167 yards and 4 scores and had an interception, but he wasn’t the only one to thrive as the offensive line paved the way for 346 yards from scrimmage in the first 36 minutes before giving way to the JV. Luke Maxwell ran 7 times for 74 yards and a TD, Jared Schoppe had 13 attempts for 62 yards and a touchdown and Joel Anderson capped the scoring by taking a fumble return to the house.

Delsea didn’t come out of the evening unscathed though as starting quarterback Zach Maxwell injured his shoulder in the first quarter and wasn’t able to finish the game. His status for next week’s sectional final is up in the air.

Top-seeded Delsea will host third-seeded Hopewell Valley in next week's title game between a pair of 10-0 unbeaten teams.. HV knocked off third-seeded Burlington Township in Friday's other semifinal game.

South Jersey Group 2

Rumson-Fair Haven 28, Oakcrest 6: The Falcons bowed out of the tournament and finished their season at 7-4.

Raritan 28, Pleasantville 7: The Greyhounds fell to 6-3 with a Thanksgiving Day showdown against Ocean City left on the schedule.

State Non-Public A

St. Augustine 45, St. John Vianney 0: Julian Turney found the end zone three times on runs of 45, 5 and 5 yards while Na’Cire Christmas recorded a pick-6 to highlight the shutout for the Hermits

Eight-seeded St. Augustine (6-4) will travel to top-seeded and top-ranked Don Bosco Prep for a quarterfinal game next Friday.

Saturday's Games

Woodbury 45, Shore 8: Anthony Reagan rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Ibn Muhammad found the end zone twice as the Thundering Herd rumbled into the sectional title game for the second straight season.

Wilson Torres ripped off a 94-yard touchdown run and JaBron Solomon had a 65-yard punt return for a score for top-seeded Woodbury.

Quarterback Bryan Johnson completed 8 of 11 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns while Reagan finished with four carries for 100 yards.

The Thundering Herd (8-2) will host third-seeded Woodbury (9-2) next Saturday for the South Jersey Group 1 title. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams over the last two seasons, which includes Woodbury’s 38-14 win on Aug. 26.

Salem 42, Glassboro 22: Quarterback Jahki Coates ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as the second-seeded Rams rallied past No. 3 Glassboro 42-22 in the Central Jersey Group 1 semifinals on Saturday.

The Rams trailed 16-7 with less than 4 minutes remaining in the first half, but rattled off 35 straight points to take control.

Coates finished 6-of-13 passing for 158 yards, including a 62-yard TD to Ramaji Bundy, and ran nine times for 55 yards. Bundy added a rushing score as well while Abdul Bell had 26 carries for 119 yards, but he suffered a knee injury late in the fourth quarter, which required an ambulance to take him off the field.

St Joseph-Montvale 45, Paul VI 13: The 13th-seeded Eagles were bounced from the state Non-Public A tournament with a road loss.

Paul VI, which had allowed 28 points combined in its previous five games, was torched for a season-high against the perennial powerhouse from Montvale. The Eagles fell to 6-3 with a showdown against rival Camden Catholic on Nov. 23 remaining.

Kyle Smith rushed for a touchdown and Dom Santiago fired a TD pass to Matt Morad to account for the Eagles' scoring.

St. Joseph 17, Montclair-Immaculate 0: The Wildcats advanced to the state Non-Public B semifinal as the defense generated a safety en route to their first safety in two years.

Jaevien Swain and James Mantuano each rushed for touchdowns in the second quarter as St. Joseph took a 17-point lead into the intermission.

St. Joseph (7-2) will await Friday's Immaculata-DePaul winner for a semifinal game in two weeks.
