Roundup: Wesleyan baseball falls to Charlotte

Mar. 26—HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian lost 6-3 against Charlotte Christian in a battle of NCISAA baseball powerhouses Wednesday at Wesleyan's field.

Josh Jordan and Grant Aycock each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Trojans (3-3), while Mason Russell added a double.

SOCCER LEDFORD, NORTH DAVIDSON

WALLBURG — Ledford lost 9-1 against rival North Davidson in Central Carolina 2A Conference girls soccer Wednesday at Ledford.

The Panthers dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

OAK GROVE, EAST DAVIDSON

MIDWAY — Oak Grove shut out East Davidson 3-0 in nonconference girls soccer Wednesday at Oak Grove.

Haley Long scored two goals while Skylar Coogle had one to lead the Grizzlies (2-1), who held the Golden Eagles without a shot on goal.

WHEATMORE, PROVIDENCE GROVE

TRINITY — Wheatmore crushed Providence Grove 9-0 in PAC-7 2A girls soccer Wednesday at Wheatmore.

The Warriors, who led 5-0 at halftime, improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

SOFTBALL LEDFORD 8, SALISBURY 0

WALLBURG — Chloe Everhart tossed a one-hit, 10 strikeout shutout as Ledford topped Salisbury 8-0 in Central Carolina 2A Conference action Wednesday.

Leading hitter for the Panthers were Juli Motsinger (3 for 4 with 3 stolen bases); Sophie Wheat (2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs); Everhart (2 for 3 with 1 RBI); Anna Holland (1 for 3 with 3 RBIs).

Ledford improves to 3-1 and 1-0 in the CCC. The Panthers next see action at East Davidson on March 31.

EAST DAVIDSON, CENTRAL DAVIDSON

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson lost 15-0 in four innings against Central Davidson on Wednesday in nonconference softball at Brown Middle.

The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-2.

WESLEYAN CHRISTIAN, SW GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian topped Southwest Guilford 14-12 in softball Monday at Wesleyan.

The game was stopped due to darkness, but since five complete innings were played.

MacKenzie Smith went 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Trojans (1-4), while Chandler Deese went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Lila Allred also doubled, tripled and drove in a run, while Bella Dunning had two hits and two RBIs. Emmalie Spry also had two hits and an RBI.

Allred got the win in 4 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and seven walks while striking out four.

TENNIS LEDFORD, THOMASVILLE

WALLBURG — Ledford swept Thomasville 9-0 in Central Carolina 2A boys tennis Wednesday at Ledford.

Chris Hartzell, Sam Kruse, Rafa Kostraba and Jake Queen won in singles for the Panthers (3-0 overall, 3-0 CCC), who also won No. 6 singles by forfeit. Hartzell-Queen and Kruse-Joe Lamb won in doubles, plus another forfeit.

HP CENTRAL, NW GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — High Point Central fell 8-1 against Northwest Guilford in Metro 4A Conference boys tennis Wednesday at Northwest.

Slade Howell won a tight match at No. 6 singles for the Bison (0-2 overall, 0-1 conference).

OAK GROVE, CENTRAL DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON — Central Davidson edged past Oak Grove 5-4 in Central Carolina 2A Conference boys tennis Wednesday at Central Davidson.

Brady Weiser, Justin Gadd and Nick Morris won in singles for the Grizzlies (1-2 overall, 1-2 conference). Weisner-Eli McNeil won in doubles.

RAGSDALE, GRIMSLEY

GREENSBORO — Ragsdale lost 8-1 against Grimsley in Metro 4A Conference boys tennis Wednesday at Grimsley.

Anthony Orfanedes won a three-set match at No. 2 singles for the Tigers (1-2 overall, 0-2 conference).

CLINTON, S.C. — The High Point University men's soccer team won its fourth straight game with a 3-0 victory over Presbyterian College on Wednesday at Martin Stadium.

M.D. Myers recorded a brace for the fifth time through eight games. Myers scored the opening goal of the contest in the 12th minute and the last goal of the game in the 80th minute. Josh Dubost added the second goal off of a corner from Mason Marcey. The shutout marked the fifth of the season for keeper Holden Trent.

Mason Marcey dished two assists and Sebastian Chalbaud had one.

HPU improves to 7-1 and 5-0 in the Big South with a trip to USC Upstate on Saturday. Presbyterian drops to 2-4-1, 0-4-1.
