A dentist who worked out of Oxnard was held to answer for allegedly assaulting a patient while they were unconscious, according to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Fariborz Farnad, 57, of Beverly Hills, is charged with one count of felony sexual battery. A preliminary hearing on the charge took place Monday.

Farnad worked as a dentist at Oxnard Oral and Facial Care Center, 2001 Solar Drive. During his time there, he is accused of sexually battering a patient who was under anesthesia.

Farnad is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Jan. 27, 2023, in room 12 of Ventura County Superior Court. He remains out of custody on a $20,000 bond. If convicted, Farnad faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison.

Woman accused of embezzling from Fillmore gas station

A 48-year-old Santa Paula woman pleaded not guilty to grand theft embezzlement Wednesday after she was accused of stealing money from the gas station where she worked.

The crime was suspected to have taken place last month at Chevron Gas, 704 W. Ventura St.

The suspect is accused of falsifying money drops during her time as a cashier. Instead of depositing cash into the gas station safe, she pocketed the money herself. The total amount of money taken was estimated to be $12,000, authorities said.

Deputies detained the suspect on Dec. 12 and booked her into custody in county jail. She was released on her own recognizance after pleading not guilty during an arraignment hearing Wednesday. The next court date is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 in room 12 of Ventura County Superior Court.
