Route 22 crash in Bridgewater sends seven people to hospital

BRIDGEWATER - Seven people were injured, including two critically, following a two-vehicle crash early Sunday in the area of Route 22 and Vosseller Avenue.

The two drivers, from Plainfield and North Brunswick, and five passengers from the two vehicles were all taken by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment, police said.

Police were notified about a serious motor vehicle the crash around 2:09 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived they found a 2004 Honda Civic and a 2016 Kia Sedona both disabled with heavy damage in the intersection.

Police said Jose Cruz Villanueva Izaguirre, 24, of Plainfield was driver of the Honda Civic. Also in the vehicle were two adults passengers and one juvenile teenage passenger who all suffered serious injuries, including one passenger who was unresponsive in the back seat and suffered severe head trauma, police said.

Elhabib Alhoudh, 56, of North Brunswick was driving the Kia Sedona. He was traveling with two adult rear seat passengers, including one who suffered a serious internal injury, police said.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates the Honda Civic was traveling east on Route 22 when it entered the intersection and struck the Kia Sedona which was making a left turn onto Route 22 from the north side of Volleller Avenue.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Bureau.
