Route 24 closed in the Rehoboth Beach area after serious crash Tuesday, police say

Update: The roadway has reopened, Delaware State Police said

John J. Williams Highway, also known as Route 24, in the Rehoboth Beach area is closed between Plantations Road and Mulberry Knoll Road due to a serious crash, according to Delaware State Police.

Police and emergency vehicles are on the scene after the crash occurred about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Drivers should avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel, police said. The road closure is anticipated to be lengthy, and police did not provide an estimated time for re-opening.
