Route 33 Business/Park Avenue bridge in Freehold to remain closed for additional repairs

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - The Route 33 Business/Park Avenue bridge over the Conrail railroad, already closed for nearly a month, will remain closed until the spring for more emergency repairs, the state Department of Transportation said.

The department is developing the repair design and is expected to start working on the bridge within the next few weeks.

The work is expected to be completed by early April, weather permitting, the depeartment said.

Detours will be in effect.

Motorists traveling westbound will be directed to turn left onto the ramp to Route 55 South/Halls Mill Road before taking ramps to Route 33 West and Route 79 North and then turning right onto Route 33 Business/Park Avenue.

The bridge was closed on Dec. 22 while a temporary support was installed to shore up the north column.

DOT officials have since determined that additional repairs are needed to the abutment and south column before the bridge can be opened to traffic.
