Rowan Co man charged with delinquency of a minor after posting bond for child sex crimes

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man has been charged for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile on the same day he posted bond for indecent liberties with a child, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, May 3, 55-year-old David Wayne Mize Sr. was arrested at his house and charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor from an incident in October 2023.

Deputies received a report from the parents of a 13-year-old child who had been sexually abused by a family friend, officials said.

Detectives believe the victim was assaulted on October 13, 2023, at a home on Zion Church Road. The victim immediately told their family who the next day reported it to deputies.

On May 3, when Mize was arrested, he was released on a $15,000 bond to await his trial. On that same day, he was served a warrant for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile from an incident on April 30, 2024, authorities said.

Deputies were called for a welfare check in a wooded area in the 600 block of Zion Church Road. Mize was found in a run-down vehicle with his 12-year-old daughter who didn’t have necessities such as food, water, housing or transportation to and from school.

Officials say Mize admitted to picking her up from a relative who was her primary caregiver. The Department of Social Servies (DSS) was contacted, and they made the decision to remove the child from the custody of her primary caregiver and made arrangements to live with other relatives.

Mize received a $1,500 secured bond for this charge and has a court date set for May 22, 2024.
