This Royal-Approved Beer Is Sold Through One Of The Queen's Estates
If you've ever wondered whether or not Queen Elizabeth II is into beer, I've got your answer. Though the Queen's former chef has long claimed that her highness is actually a huge fan of gin and Dubonnet (which is a aperitif wine, if ya didn't know!) it seems as if she's also a fan of beer, and honestly, I'm just as surprised as you are. And now, as if to double down on that, there's a royal family-approved beer.
Sold at the Sandringham Estate gift shop—which is located at her majesty's Norfolk country home—the two new bottled beers are a bitter and an IPA. Respectively named the Sandringham Best Bitter and the Sandringham Golden IPA, both of the beers are brewed right in Norfolk by the local Barsham Brewery. According to a sign seen in the gift shop, the beers are said to be made using "Organic Laureate Spring Barley harvested from the Royal estate, and crystal clear water drawn from a nearby bore hole." How fancy!
The Best Bitters bottles feature a green label with a drawing of hare, while the Golden IPA has a brown and golden-yellow label with a drawing of a pheasant. Wondering why those were chosen? Well, according to an explanation on the bottles, it's because "the Sandringham Estate is a wildlife haven for Pheasants, Hares, Owls and many other species thrive in the wood and farmland habitats."
Priced at £3.99 (or $5.55), the 500-milliliter craft bottles come equipped with a 4.3 percent (Best Bitters) and a 5 percent (Golden IPA) ABV. So if you're planning a trip to the U.K. soon, you know where your first stop should be!
