After weeks of speculation, yesterday (April 12) Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry will attend the coronation of his father, King Charles, while Meghan Markle will remain in California to celebrate their son Archie's birthday.

But apparently there was some behind-the-scenes tension with Kate Middleton when it came to the possibility of her sister-in-law attending. According to royal author Tom Bower, via The Express, Kate straight up "prevented Meghan coming and said she wouldn’t have her there under any circumstances.”

This is a pretty salacious claim, and contradicts what a source told Page Six: that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry "had to make a decision that felt genuine and authentic, especially after everything that has been said and all the things that have gone down" and that “It’s a decision they made together as a family."

Tom Bower also claimed that, for the royals, “Harry’s presence is constitutionally important" since he's in the line of succession. "The question is, what is role will be when he gets to London? and I think that the arguments over the last few days have been very much to minimize his presence in the Abbey.”

Just FYI, none of this has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace, which simply put in a statement (re: Prince Harry's attendance): "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."
