Royal baby latest news: Duke and Duchess name boy Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor - live updates

After months of speculation about the royal baby's name - we finally have the answer. The Duke and Duchess' baby boy is called Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Earlier today, we got the photograph the world had been waiting for as the couple gave us our first glimpse of their "bundle of joy".

The couple broke the news on their official Instagram account, along with an adorable picture of the new family of three, the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Meghan's mother Doria Ragland.

It was posted with the caption: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle.

"The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion."

New mother Meghan appeared emotional earlier today as she described how she now has the "two best guys in the world" after the birth of Baby Sussex.

It's magic, it's pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I'm really happy.

Speaking just after midday on Wednesday in St George's Hall at Windsor Castle as her husband held their two-day-old child, Meghan added: "He has the sweetest temperament, he's really calm.

"As they both laughed, Harry said: "I don't know who he gets that from." The Duchess, in a white dress, repeatedly rubbed her newborn's head as her husband in a light grey suit held the boy. She described the days since her pregnancy as "special".

Two hours after the photocall, the couple posted their three favourite pictures on their own official Instagram.

When asked who the baby most resembles, Prince Harry said they would have to "monitor him over the next month" because "his looks are changing every day".

Both parents' smiles were palpable as they shared their baby with the world, as the Duke described him as their "very own bundle of joy".

This afternoon, Baby Sussex will officially meet the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, and Meghan said she "cannot wait" to share him with their family.

But Meghan revealed the three had already "bumped into" Prince Philip before coming out for the photocall, saying it was "really nice". Her mother Doria Ragland has been at her side since birth.

Asked how he found parenting, Harry added: "It's great. Parenting is amazing. It's only been two and a half days, three days, but we're just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy."

And in other royal baby news...

In slightly offbeat royal baby news, The Duke of Sussex has reached a settlement with a news agency which took pictures of his Cotswolds home from a helicopter, the High Court has heard.

Lawyers for the Duke told a judge in London on Wednesday that there had been a "settlement of privacy and data protection complaints" made against Splash News and Picture Agency over photographs which showed "the living area, dining area and bedroom" of the property.

The court heard that the photographs "very seriously undermined the safety and security of the Duke" and his wife Meghan, who "felt they were no longer able to live at the property".

His barrister Ian Helme said the Duke was applying for permission to have a statement announcing the terms of the settlement read in open court.

The agency does not oppose the making of a statement in open court, Mr Helme added, but had raised "quibbles" about its wording.

Mr Helme said Splash objected to the part of the statement which, the court heard, says the Sussexes moved out of the property because of the photographs, arguing that The Sun and Daily Mail had already published similar photographs and that it would be "unfair to pin this all on Splash".

However, granting permission for a "unilateral statement" made on Harry's behalf to be read in open court, Senior Master Barbara Fontaine ruled that "the evidence supports the position" that the photographs in question "did undermine in a serious way the safety and security of the applicant and his wife".

The statement in open court will be heard on a date to be fixed.

Wrapped in a pristine £105 shawl, Baby Sussex makes his pictorial debut

What would the new Baby Sussex be wearing to make his fashion debut?

It seemed an incidental question, considering that most royal style watchers would be looking first to see what couture ensemble his mother, the Duchess of Sussex, might wear for the occasion, but it was one that would actually offer a great insight into the intentions of his parents and how they might choose to raise him.

Caroline Leaper has all the details here.

"Life is good for Your Majesty?" Mr Chretien asked.

The smiling Queen replied: "Yes, thank you."

"Congratulations. Another great-grandchild!" he added.

A look back on William and Kate's royal babies

We have become accustomed to the royal baby routine - and the world seems to like it.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have led the way since 2013 when they appeared on the steps of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington with their first child.

Prince William and Kate followed suit two years later as Princess Charlotte was shown off to the world in the same way as her brother Prince George.

The family's third Lindo Wing birth last year repeated the same familiar routine as the then-nameless Prince Louis made his first public appearance on what have now become the iconic steps of the central London hospital.

Reporters, photographers and broadcasters from across the globe were able to set up camp outside, waiting for the moment the family emerge.

With guests coming and going through the huge wooden doors, conversation flowed between visitors and reporters.

This royal baby's birth has been shrouded in secrecy with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opting to do things their way.

How exactly they will choose to present their baby to the world remains to be seen, but here is a look back on how the Cambridges unveiled their bundles of joy.

How the royal PR machine's treatment of both public and press left us all lost for words

Ever wanted to know how the press get their stories?

Look no further than this excellent piece by Associate Editor Camilla Tominey, who dissects how the news of the royal baby's birth staggered its way from the Palace to newsrooms across the world.

It won't be a pleasant read for the Sussexes’ new communications chief Sara Latham, who later explained there had been a "colossal tech failure" which meant an email informing the press did not reach most inboxes until an hour after it was sent at 1pm.

Growing up in Windsor: What will life be like for baby Sussex?

Only once Meghan has merged from the post birth fog, will she discover quite what a good move she has made to Windsor, Anna Tyzach writes.

She might be sleep deprived and sore and living in a building site but within a few miles of Frogmore, her newly renovated “forever home” is everything a new mother could need from organic supermarkets and luxury spas to Buggy Fit classes and cafes serving proper coffee.

Here, we take a look at what's in store for the royal baby growing up in Berkshire's crown jewel.

The gallery features Prince Harry wearing the uniform of the Parachute Regiment of the British Army in the garden of Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, with his mother, Princess Diana of Wales.

There are a handful of pictures of Prince William showing his brother the ropes - something he continues to do today.

A young Meghan also features, including pictures of her mother Doria Ragland doting on her as a baby.

Royal baby Sussex: Everything we know about Meghan and Harry's baby boy

There is plenty of news yet to come from Frogmore Cottage.

But here is what we know so far.

7:46AM

What will Harry and Meghan call their first child?

Latest predictions on what the Royal baby will be called

The duke and duchess may decide to go with a traditional name like James, Philip or Arthur.

However, the pair are forward-thinking royals and may decide to surprise everyone when naming their first child. Canadian-born Autumn Phillips, and husband Peter Phillips, opted for a non-traditional name for their daughter Savannah - the Queen's first great-grandchild - in 2010.

Yesterday William Hill selected a new favourite name - Spencer at 4/1 - the maiden name of Prince Harry's late mother Princess Diana. Other top picks for the royal baby boy are James and Alexander, both at 5/1.

The Duchess may also seek inspiration from her friends. Her confidante and stylist Jessica Mulroney has twin boys called Brian and John, who were pageboys at the royal wedding.

In the US, the most popular name is Liam for a baby boy. In the UK, the most popular name for a boy is Oliver.

Harry and Meghan's child, who will be seventh in line to the throne, is extremely unlikely ever to be king, meaning the couple have more freedom with their choices. In comparison, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose to give their children traditional names, picking George for their firstborn, who is likely to one day be king.
