Royal Canadian Air Force pilots head home after training in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Pilots with the Royal Canadian Air Force are headed home after weeks of training at San Angelo’s Mathis Field.

Members of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce took part in a sendoff at Mathis Field for the Canadian pilots on Friday, February 23rd. The pilots come to San Angelo each year and bring their trainers with them because of the good flying weather and available space at Mathis Field. The pilots made about 30 training each day.

“It’s been excellent. The community is fantastic. Everywhere we go, everybody comes up to us and says, ‘Hi! What are you doing here? We love to see you,’ extremely friendly.” said Major Amanda Maki. “The airport’s been really helpful. The tower’s been working with us, all the support staff working with us, and the city’s gone out of its way to make us feel welcome, so we love being here. It’s fantastic.”

Ranger Aviation hosts the pilots who are training with the Royal Canadian Air Force several times a year.
