Royals’ Zack Greinke got a kick out of a Guardians player’s choice of walk-up music

An inside joke among friends took place Tuesday during Cleveland’s 5-1 win over the Royals.

When he was with Houston, pitcher Zack Greinke would take the mound to the song, “Seminole Wind.”

Not so coincidentally, Guardians center fielder Myles Straw, who played with Greinke in Houston, changed his walk-up music when he stepped to the plate at Progressive Field on Tuesday night.

It was “Seminole Wind,” and when the music began, Greinke turned toward Straw and smiled.

Straw grinned, too.

This was a great moment from the game.

“I thought I would get a smile out of him and that’s about what it was,” Straw told reporters after the game. “Maybe a little bit more than I thought, so pretty cool to see that. He’s one of the best, Hall of Famer, great person. Glad I got a smile out of him.”

Greinke played for the Astros from 2019-21, and Straw was there all three seasons. Even though they’ve moved to other teams, the two still keep in touch, Straw said.

“He’s funny. He’s a funny guy,” Straw said. “He may keep to himself a little bit more than some people think, but once you kind of open up to him, he’ll open up. He’s a pretty funny guy.

“I chat with him once in a while and he’s always got some good stuff to talk about. He’s quite the character.”
