RPD releases new details in ongoing Patton Ave NW homicide investigating

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)–Roanoke Police have released an update on the Patton Ave homicide investigation that occurred early morning Saturday, Feb. 17.

According to the police department, officers were dispatched at 4:55 a.m. after a report of a person with a gunshot wound on the 400 block of Patton Ave NW. Responding officers found a man at the scene suffering from a critical injury.

Officers immediately gave emergency aid to the victim until Roanoke Fire-EMS arrived; however, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say no suspects were located at the scene.

Evidence found during the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred on Patton Ave NW.

Investigators believe the suspect is traveling in a maroon 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude with license plate TSB7187. Officers are currently searching for the vehicle and its occupants.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing. Details about what led to the shooting still are limited and no arrests have been made. If anyone sees the vehicle, police ask to not attempt to stop, apprehend, or detain the Jeep and its occupants, and to call the Roanoke Police. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– The Roanoke Police Department is currently investigating a homicide in the 400 block of Patton Ave NW.

According to the police department, Patton Ave NW is closed to through traffic from 4th St. NW to 5th St. NW as officers conduct the investigation. Police ask to avoid traveling through this area as officers work as they expect the road to be closed for some time.

Police say they do not believe there is a direct threat to the community regarding this incident.
