Election day is around the corner. Don’t have a ride to a polling place?

The San Joaquin Regional Transit District will be offering free transportation on Tuesday, Nov. 8 on California’s General Election Day as part of its “Buses for Democracy” program to make participation “easier and more accessible”, RTD said in a statement Tuesday.

Free transportation will be offered in the Express, Local and Hopper services. Fixed-route passengers participating in the “Buses for Democracy” promotion must notify the bus operator upon boarding the bus that they are traveling to or from a polling center.

DAR passengers must request a free ride by calling (209) 943-1111.

“It is essential that everyone has the ability to perform their civic duty and cast their ballot,” said RTD CEO Alex Clifford in the news release. “No one should be denied their right to vote simply because they can’t afford a ride. Free public transportation on election day will help by providing access to those who may not have transportation and help ensure that everyone can participate in our democracy.”
