Ruby Slipper to reopen Canal Street location

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After a five-year hiatus, brunch is back at the Ruby Slipper’s Canal Street location!

According to a release, the breakfast and brunch spot at 1001 Canal St. will reopen on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The location served as the restaurant’s flagship store and opened 10 years ago. The business closed in 2019 following the collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel.

New Orleans’ biggest supplier of custom Mardi Gras throws is found in Mid-City

The release states the restaurant has undergone renovations including the installation of bar-tops from the Mid-City location and new photos detailing the restaurant’s history.

“In the face of many challenges, including the tragic construction collapse that deeply affected this neighborhood, we have emerged stronger,” said Ruby Slipper Co-founder Jennifer Weishaupt. “This reopening is more than just a restaurant; it’s an investment in the heart of our beloved city, a contribution to the revitalization of Canal Street, and a symbol of resilience for the entire community.”

A grand opening ceremony will be held on Feb. 20. New Orleans officials and singer Robin Barnes are expected to be in attendance.
