Rudyard Lions Summerfest announce triathlon and 5K results

RUDYARD — Runners from across the region enjoyed success on Sunday, July 30 during the 26th Annual Rudyard Lions Summerfest Triathlon and 5K Run.

During the event, runners took part in a 5K run, short course triathlon and team triathlon events. The races all started from Rudyard High School.

The overall male winner for the 5K run was Hayden Mills of Kinross, who finished with a time of 18.33. The top female winner was Erin Cornwell of Pickford, who had a time of 23.11.

First overall in the unique reverse triathlon format male division was Christopher Schnettler from Sault, with a time of 1:18.17. In the female division, the overall winner was Sarah Liederbach of Petoskey, with a time of 1:27.20.

The following were the top winners in the triathlon age group categories:

  • 19-year-old and under male age group: Steven Kirshner of Rudyard at 1:34.33 placed first, Jesse Zeeyrp of Rudyard at 1:39.37 placed second, Cameron Willis of Kincheloe at 1:49.17 placed third.

  • 19-year-old and under female age group: Cassandra Gallagher of Sault at 1:29.00 placed first, Sarah-Pearl Kabat of Golden Valley, Minnesota at 1:46.39 placed second, Melissa Kirschner of Rudyard at 1:53.27 placed third.

  • 20-29 male age group: Paul Burke of Sault at 1:33.31 placed first.

  • 30-39 male age group: Adam Fuhrman of Pickford at 1:28.16 placed first, Shawn Leach of Sault at 1:40.44 placed second, Allan Veller of Fitchburg, Massachusetts at 1:44.59 placed third.

  • 30-39 female age group: Elizabeth Veler of Fitchburg, Massachusetts at 1:54.17 placed first.

  • 40-49 male age group: Travis Forinski of Pickford at 1:36.33 placed first and Peter Scronaiencki of Sault at 1:52.31 placed second.

  • 50-59 male age group: Hans Kabat of Golden Valley, Minnesota at 1:20.00 placed first and Kim Miller of Dafter at 1:48.58 placed second.

  • 50-59 female age group: Kelly Kabat of Golden Valley, Minnesota at 1:41.51 placed first and Linda Smith of Iron Mountain at 1:58.42 placed second.

  • 60-69 male age group: Fred Liederbach of Petoskey at 1:36.04 placed first.

  • 70-79 male age group Phil Dansdill of Sault at 1:57.00 placed first.

In the team races:

COED team: X + 2 Squared of Sault at 1:07.53 placed first, SISU Sisters Plus 1 of Madison, Wisconsin at 1:43:31 placing second and Staying Alive of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and Rudyard at 1:48.19 placing third.

All-female team: 3 Mosquitoes of Golden Valley, Minnesota at 1:45.13 finishing first and Slow-motion of Gaylord at 2:01.45 finishing second.

All-male team: Rudyard Lions Challenge - JTG team of Rudyard at 1:31.47 was second overall in the team event.

As winner of the Lions Challenge, X + 2 Squared designated the Hospice of the Eastern Upper Peninsula as the organization that will receive a $250 donation check.

The 5K winners were:

  • 11-year-old and under female age group: Colleen Rice of Rudyard at 28.17 placed first, Kelsey Rader of Kincheloe at 32.01 placed second, Adelynn Jeffreys of Rudyard at 41.46 placed third.

  • 11-year-old and under male age group: Noah Rice of Rudyard at 31.24 placed first and Aiken Jeffreys of Rudyard at 33.11 placed second.

  • 12-15 female age group: Anna Kabat of Rudyard at 48.20 placed first.

  • 12-15 male age group: Aiden Jeffreys of Rudyard at 33.04 placed first.

  • 16-19 female age group: Alexa Peterman of Rudyard at 27.28 placed first.

  • 16-19 male age group: Brode Hunt of Rudyard at 21.23 placed first.

  • 20-29 female age group: Haley Cornwell of Pickford at 24.40 placed first.

  • 20-29 male age group: Jacob Skonieczay of Sault at 26.59 placed first.

  • 30-39 female age group: Char Taylor of Pickford at 30.57 placed first and Brianna Otten of Rudyard at 38.01 placed second.

  • 40-49 female age group: Kristin Verrett of Kewadin at 25.44 finished first, Valarie Davis of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin at 38.55 finished second and Jennifer Peterman of Rudyard at 47.06 finished third.

  • 40-49 male age group: Aaron Litzner of Sault at 18.50 placed first.

  • 50-59 female age group: Tracie Osborn at 30.13 took first, Heather Smith of Sault at 47.51 took second and Lisa Hunt of Rudyard at 49.53 placed third.

  • 50-59 male age group: Steve Mills from Kinross at 23.20 placed first.

  • 60-69 male age group: Alan Jarvie of Rudyard at 25.02 placed first.

  • 70-year-old and older female age group: Linda Borck of Grand Rapids at 33.57 placed first, Elaine Caldwell of New Baltimore at 42.00 placed second and Dorothy Johnston of Indian River at 45.25 placed third.

  • 70-year-old and older male age group: Donald Wheatley of Punta Gorda, Florida at 38.11 placed first, John Johnston of Indian River at 43.51 placed second and David Borck of Grand Rapids at 49.50 placed third.
