- Australia hammered Olympic champions Fiji 40-7 to win the inaugural 'Oktoberfest 7s' in Munich, as Germany finished fifth in hosting the country's first major international rugby tournament. A young Australian side brushed past the Fijians, who brought 10 development players. Ben O'Donnell claimed two of Australia's six tries in the final after South Africa had earlier beaten England 42-7 to claim third. "It's a great feeling, this squad has come together really quickly. It started in the camp and you saw it click in the final," said O'Donnell. Organisers hope the inaugural tournament will lead to Germany being awarded a leg of the World Sevens Series within the next three years. Over the two days, 21,000 fans watched the action at the Olympic Stadium.
