Bartlesville High wrestler Carter Manley proved to be a jarring load as he rammed to fifth place in last weekend’s crowded Bobby Lyons tourney at Sand Springs High.

Manley was part of a 10-man Bruin contingent that help filled the ranks of a throng of chiseled, finely-tuned gladiators armed with determination.

Manley opened up by staggering his first opponent (Muskogee) in a major decision, 20-8.

Riding the momentum of that effort, Manley powered past his next rival (Owasso) by decision, 8-5, to propel into the quarterfinals.

Manley’s championship quest ended there as he lost by decision, 7-2, to a Bixby matter.

But, Manley’s day was far from done.

He opened in the consolation bracket by dropping a Cascia Hall challenger with a fall (2:22).

Manley forged another step forward by dominating his next opponent (Houston High) in a decision, 5-0.

That win elevated Manley into the consolation semifinals — and a second loss, this one to a Cascia Hall battler.

However, Manley regrouped in the fifth-place match. He thumped a Cushing foe by major decision, 10-2, for his fifth win.

Following is a look at how the Bruin grapplers fared at the tourney. (W-L record includes byes.)

Closer look

Lunn also made his bone-rattling presence felt on his way to sixth place at 138 pounds.

He started out with back-to-back wins — a decision against a Sand Springs rival, 4-1, and a fall against a Victory Christian matter (2:00).

But, Lunn suffered a loss by fall (3:31) in a valiant quarterfinal effort.

He bounced back to win twice in the consolation bracket — by an 11-6 decision against a Copperas Cove battler and by forfeit against a Southlake Carroll wrestler.

In the consolation semifinal, Lunn lost by fall to a Sperry opponent. Lunn also suffered a fall in the fifth-place match to an Adams City High rival.

Peugh won his final two matches by fall (1:32 and 3:00).

Parker also finished with back-to-back victories, winning by fall (2:21) and by decision (9-5).
