Rules You Probably Didn't Know Old Hollywood Stars Had to Follow

Old Hollywood is known for its glitz and glamour, and that's largely due to its shining stars. But celebrities during this time put up with a lot to make it big. You see, the Golden Age of Hollywood was a time between the '20s and '60s when the studio system ruled, meaning the Big Five studios controlled the film industry. These companies created stars like Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland, but due to strict contracts, they controlled them in many ways too. It is a far cry from how the city was under Taliban rule in the late 90s – here, women and men can mingle, chat, even go on dates. But these days, the conversation has turned serious as US troops prepare to withdraw from Afghanistan. Many fear that the Taliban will gain power and that the country could once again be flung into civil war with many of its warlords still vying for power. Young women worry they could be subjected to the old cruelties their mothers and grandmothers endured under the Taliban's 1996-2001 rule. Human rights organisations warn that women’s fundamental freedoms can’t be compromised. The Taliban remain deeply misogynistic, explains Heather Barr, interim co-director in the Women's Rights Division for Human Rights Watch. “Women have suffered deeply during Afghanistan’s 40 years of war, and they desperately long for peace. They have also fought ferociously for equality in the years since the fall of the Taliban government and have made great progress. Today there are women ministers and governors and judges and police and soldiers,” she says.

France to impose entry restrictions on travelers from India
France will impose new entry restrictions on travelers from India to fight a contagious coronavirus variant spreading in that country, an official said Wednesday. The restrictions come in addition to those previously announced regarding four other countries — Brazil, Argentina, Chile and South Africa — that will be implemented starting from Saturday. Government spokesman Gabriel Attal also confirmed that France will lift its ban on domestic travel as planned on May 3, but will maintain its nighttime curfew, now in place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Nonessential shops, closed since the partial lockdown of the country at beginning of April, won't reopen before mid-May, he said.
