Reports put top names in mix for University of Akron head football coach opening

Reports are circulating around who will be the University of Akron’s next football coach, with two prominent names emerging.
A report from Yahoo Sports Pete Thamel has the leading candidate as Joe Moorhead, current offensive coordinator at the University of Oregon.
Moorhead worked on the UA coaching staff for five years from 2004-08, the last two as offensive coordinator when he worked with quarterback Luke Getsy. While on then coach J.D. Brookhart’s staff, the Zips won their first and only conference championship.

Since then, Moorhead has been to Mississippi State, Penn State and Fordham.
Another name being bandied about is Kevin Wilson, current offensive coordinator at Ohio State, according to a report by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. Wilson was head coach at Indiana for six seasons (2011-16) before arriving in Columbus in 2017. The Buckeyes have improved steadily on offense since his arrival.
