Run, eat, shop and relax by Canandaigua Lake: 6 things to do this week
Run, eat, enjoy the nightlife by Canandaigua Lake and get into the holiday spirit at any point after waking up from your post-turkey dinner nap. Then, repeat, especially the running part if you eat and enjoy the nightlife too much.
Several communities are hosting popular turkey trot races on Thanksgiving Day. Then, it’s onto to Black Friday, Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday in downtown Canandaigua and a pub crawl down by the lake, with a visit from Santa Claus topping off the weekend.
Here’s what’s happening this week.
1. Naples Turkey Trot
Register for the Naples Turkey Trot at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, and run soon after at Naples Community Park, 8091 Route 245, Naples. Suggested entry fees are $5 per person or $20 per family. Proceeds help to support the Naples Community Park Foundation, Naples Hospeace House, Naples Open Cupboard and NCS Parent Teacher Partnership Committee. As always, nonperishable items are welcomed for the Naples Open Cupboard. This year's race honors the memory of David Hoselton, an instrumental member of the Hoselton Auto Mall and a dedicated and longstanding member of the Naples community.
2. Arc Ontario Turkey Trot in Canandaigua
Registration for the Arc Ontario Turkey Trot is 7:45 a.m. Nov. 23 with the race starting at 9 a.m. at F.A. Baker Memorial Park in Canandaigua. Early registration for $20 closes at midnight Nov. 22. Day-of-registration cost is $25; children under 12 can register for free. The proceeds will benefit the Friends of Ontario Arc Foundation and the Arc Ontario's menu of programs and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities or other challenges. Parking will be available at Fuller Funeral Home on Buffalo Street and at Baker Park.
3. Victor Turkey Trot
Get ready to go, go, go at 9:15 a.m. Nov. 23 for the Victor Turkery Trot. The 5K and one-mile fun run will start and end behind Victor Town Hall, 85 E. Main St., Victor. The cost is $10 for children and teens; $20 for adults. For details, visit victorturkeytrot.com.
4. Experience the Lakeshore Drive Pub Crawl in Canandaigua
When you’re all shopped out on Friday, Nov. 24, head over to Canandaigua Lake for a pub crawl. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Young Lion Brewing, which will welcome participants with its selection of craft brews and lively atmosphere. Next up, at 7 p.m., is Jose and Willy's, which is known for its welcoming ambiance and mouthwatering wings. At 8 p.m., head over to COHO for its diverse beer selection, food and wine specials, tastings and beautiful view. At 9 p.m., Murphy’s Law is the spot for drink specials and raffles. It should go without saying, drink responsibly and have a plan for transportation.
5. Free Community Dinner in Victor
Enjoy a sit-down, family-style dinner, cooked and served by A Good Measure from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at First Presbyterian Church of Victor, 70 E. Main St., Victor. The menu includes lasagna, salad and bread with music by Doug Manzer. These meals are served every second, third and fourth Saturday of the month. Takeout meals will be available for people who call the church at 585-924-2289 during the dinner hours.
6. See the Illuminate Canandaigua parade
After shopping in downtown Canandaigua on Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday, sit back and enjoy the Illuminate Canandaigua parade on Nov. 25. The parade starts at 6 p.m., followed by a community tree-lighting ceremony shortly following the parade. Caroling, music and more holiday fun are planned for the kickoff of the holiday season.
