Elite Feet is bringing a new half marathon and 5K run to Port Huron this weekend.

The Bridge to Brew Half Marathon and 5K Run is taking place on Sunday. Elite Feet puts on a couple of other races, but owner Greg Whitican said this one may be the first half marathon in the Blue Water Area for a number of years. He said that as the owner of a running show store, he knows runners in the area have been vying for a half marathon.

"It's going to be pretty cool to be running along the water for a lot of the race," Whitican said.

Both the half marathon and 5K will start at Wings Ect. on Quay Street. According to the race's registration site, the half marathon will start at 7 a.m. while the 5K will start at 8 a.m.

Runners can still sign up until the morning of the race. Registration for the half marathon is $50 and $45 for the 5K.

Whitican said there are currently 275 people signed up between both races. He said he anticipates 300 on the actual race day.

The 5K route will take its runners from Wings Ect. to the walkway that goes through Pine Grove Park. Runners will then run to the Blue Water Bridge, turn around and come back to Wings Ect.

The half marathon route is the same as the 5K, but instead of turning around at the Blue Water Bridge, runners will continue running past the Fort Gratiot Light House toward Lakeside Beach where they will cross Gratiot Avenue. Runners will then run through the new canal bridge by Port Huron Northern, make their way to Fairway Drive and finally turn around at Grace Road cul-de-sac to run the route back to Wings Ect.

"Hopefully it will be a nice morning with good weather," Whitican said.

Water stations will be set up every two miles along the half marathon route. Eastside Timing will provide the runners their run times.

Although the name is Bridge to Brew Half Marathon and 5K, Whitican said the races are not themed around beer. He said it was given that name because it just so happens to start and finish in front of two Port Huron eateries and bars.

All runners will be given a custom tank top and a custom pint glass when they finish. Additionally, all of the half marathon runners will receive a medal as well as the above goodies.

Whitican said he is excited to bring something new to the area.
