BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The California Secretary of State Shirley Weber certified a list of candidates who will appear on the ballot for the 20th Congressional District.

The seat will see a new officeholder after former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy resigned from Congress in December.

The Secretary of State published the list of candidates on Dec. 28, 2023. This term is for the new term that begins in January 2025. Voters should note: There is a special election to complete the rest of McCarthy’s term through 2024 that takes place on March 19. You can read more about that at this link.

Vince Fong filed for reelection to the 32nd Assembly District, and filed to run for the vacated 20th Congressional District. A Sacramento County judge ruled Fong can run for both the 32nd Assembly District and the 20th Congressional District, but Fong has said he is focused on only campaigning for the 20th Congressional District seat.
