Eastside running back Kalvin Banks is The Greenville News Week 2 Athlete of the Week

The results are in for this week's poll.

The Week 2 Greenville News Athlete of the Week is Eastside running back Kalvin Banks. Banks, who received nearly 5,000 votes and 44.19% of the total votes in the poll this week, helped get the Eagles their first win of the season last Friday.

The junior rushed for three touchdowns, a two-point conversion and 226 rushing yards. He carried the ball 20 times and has just over 400 rushing yards in three games this season. Eastside was winless and Banks' big night helped get the Eagles to 1-2 on the year.

In second place in the poll was Greenville running back Jayvion Sherman. The race was tight, with Sherman getting just under 41 percent of the votes. He rushed for 140 yards and two scores against Byrnes last week.

In third was J.L. Mann running back OJ Jones. Rounding out the votes in the poll was Dezmond Twymon of Berea and Harrison Zinkann of St. Joes in fourth and fifth.

These were the nominees this week:

Dezmond Twymon, Berea: Twymon had five receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns, rushed four times for 65 yards and a score and had 236 kick return yards. He helped lead Berea to a 41-30 win over Carolina.

Kalvin Banks, Eastside: Banks rushed 20 times for 226 yards with three touchdowns as Eastside got its first win.

LaDainnian Martin, Greer: Martin rushed for 217 yards on 16 carries and scored four rushing touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets' win over Blue Ridge.

Jayvion Sherman, Greenville: Sherman rushed 12 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the Red Raiders' loss to Byrnes.

OJ Jones, J.L. Mann: Jones burst onto the scene with 176 yards and two touchdowns rushing as the Patriots improved to 3-0 with a win at Woodruff.

Baylei Grant, Mauldin: Grant, a defensive back, had two interceptions in the first half against Powdersville.

Harrison Zinkann, St. Joseph's Catholic: Zinkann rushed seven times for 143 yards and three touchdowns as the Knights improved to 3-0.
