PROVIDENCE - The list of potential - and announced - candidates keeps growing for the 1st Congressional District seat that U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, D-Rhode Island, is giving up on June 1 to take a job at the Rhode Island Foundation.

Cicilline's move will trigger a special election in Rhode Island’s First Congressional District, which covers the eastern portion of the state. Primary day will be Tuesday, September 5 and the general election on Tuesday, November 7.

Candidates will be able to file their official Declaration of Candidacy paperwork during the last week in June, according to the Secretary of State's website.

Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien:

The Pawtucket mayor says "the likelihood that I will run for the seat is very high," but he has not yet made a decision.

East Providence Mayor Roberto DaSilva: "This is a unique opportunity," DaSilva said. "I haven't made a decision one way or another yet, but it is intriguing, the ability to serve your state in another capacity and to serve your nation is something that piques my interest."

Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt:

"I have not made a decision as of yet, but have been in conversations with folks, including my family" whom she said were supportive of the idea. She did not have a definitive date by which she would make the decision.

No Republicans have said they are currently considering a run.
