Who is running for Lt. governor, secretary of state, and attorney general in Georgia?

While the top of the ticket in November's election will see some marquee matchups, several key races down the ticket will further shape the future direction of the state.

Republican candidates in the lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and attorney general races all avoided runoffs in their primaries. Jen Jordan, the Democrat candidate for attorney general, also avoided a runoff in her respective primary.

Despite the races being down the ticket, many drew national attention with some viewing the recent Republican primary as a test of Donald Trump's influence. And despite some early predictions, Georgia voters showed they are not easily swayed.

Other races: Walker, Warnock, Oliver running in US Senate race 

With hot-button issues like voting rights and access to healthcare, these races may draw even more attention than usual.

In November, all eyes will be on Georgia as voters decide the future direction of the state, which may also have implications for the future direction of the country.

Lieutenant Governor

Republican Burt Jones

Georgia state Sen. Burt Jones won out in a four-way Republican primary for lieutenant governor. Jones, a Republican from Jackson, has served as a member of the Georgia Senate since 2013.

Jones has received Donald Trump's endorsement after supporting the former president's allegation the 2020 election was stolen. Court cases, recounts, and investigations have confirmed President Joe Biden won the state of Georgia.

On his campaign website, he lists a cut to the state income tax to put more money back in the pockets of Georgians, reducing permitting and licensing process to get small businesses and entrepreneurs up and running more quickly, and cutting fees and regulations to create more jobs, as some of his priorities.

Democrat Charlie Bailey

Atlanta attorney Charlie Bailey won a runoff election after defeating former U.S. Rep. Kwanza Hall, a longtime Atlanta politician who served the last month of U.S. Rep. John Lewis' term.

Bailey received an endorsement from the Democrat nominee for governor Stacey Abrams heading into the runoff. He also had the backing of former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Mark Taylor, the last Democrat to serve as lieutenant governor in Georgia.

Bailey said on his campaign website he looks to ensure healthcare access for working Georgians by finally expanding Medicaid. Fully funding schools, reducing class size, and ensuring teachers and police officers are paid a livable wage are also some of his priorities, according to his site.

Libertarian Ryan Graham

Ryan Graham is a project manager in software development who lives in Atlanta. He is a proponent of getting the government out of the way and letting individuals create solutions for the problems of today, according to his campaign website.

His campaign website lists educational freedom, criminal justice, and election reform as his top three issues heading into the election. His site states that educators and parents should be empowered to provide innovative solutions for children to learn. It adds voters deserve access to secure and transparent elections, and access to ballots should be unencumbered for candidates and voters.

Secretary of State

Republican Brad Raffensperger, incumbent

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger drew a national spotlight due to his involvement in the 2020 presidential election. Despite drawing a Trump-endorsed challenger and the ire of the former president, he won his primary without going to a runoff.

Raffensperger campaigned as a candidate that would stand for election integrity. He also campaigned on his support for absentee voting ID requirements and a constitutional amendment to prevent noncitizen voting, which state law already prohibits.

Democrat Bee Nguyen

Bee Nguyen was the top vote-getter in the Democrat primary but was unable to avoid a runoff election. She later beat out her top opponent state Rep. Dee Dawkins-Haigler in the runoff.

Nguyen, the first Vietnamese American to serve in the Georgia General Assembly, has been endorsed by Abrams, and also had the backing of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dinkens and Democratic Rep. Hank Johnson.

Nguyen campaigned with a focus on defending future elections and voting rights. If elected in November she will be the first Asian American elected to a statewide political office in Georgia.

Libertarian Ted Metz

Ted Metz is a retired insurance and financial professional. His campaign website states he has fought since 2012 to restore the rule of law and stop corporate government takeover.

Metz supports voter ID, absentee signature matching, hand-marked paper ballots, and public ballot inspections among other things, according to his site. He opposes electronic voting systems, ballot drop boxes, ballot harvesting and ballot stuffing.

Attorney General

Republican Chris Carr, incumbent

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr was another Georgia Republican to defeat an opponent backed by Trump in his primary.

Carr, a Republican from Dunwoody, rejected Trump's claims surrounding the 2020 election. His campaign website listed stopping mask and vaccine mandates, putting human traffickers behind bars and rescuing underage victims, attacking Georgia's gang crisis, and fighting federal overreach as some of his priorities.

Carr was appointed to the attorney's general office in 2016 and is now seeking his second full term. He touts prosecuting human traffickers and defending the 2021 Georgia election law as some of his top achievements.

Democrat Jen Jordan

Democrat state Sen. Jen Jordan won outright in the Democrat primary.

Jordan, a Democrat from Sandy Springs, is in her second full term in the Senate. Her campaign website states she will fight every day for Georgians who don't have money, power, or status, and will be an attorney general who puts Georgia families first.

Defending the voting rights for all Georgians; fighting for clean air, water, and environmental justice; and, reforming the criminal justice system are some of her campaign priorities, according to her site. Protecting consumers, strengthening access to health care, and holding insurance companies accountable, are also part of her campaign platform.

Libertarian Martin Cowen

Cowen is a lifelong Libertarian, according to his campaign website, having attended the first Libertarian Party of Georgia State Convention in 1972.

Cowen is a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia, a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a UGA law school graduate.

Defending Georgia citizens from the imposition of vaccine mandates, ensuring adults have the right to make their own healthcare decisions, and advocating an end to the War on Drugs, are some of his interests, according to his site.
