RuPaul's Drag Race kicked off the fifth season with an elimination twist.
Ten new queens entered the Werk Room for Thursday's (September 28) season 5 premiere where they were thrown into the very first Maxi Challenge of the season.
In the 'Fierce Impressions Ball', the queens had to display three distinct looks on the runway — starting with a 'daytime drag' look where the judges evaluated what each queen wore entering the Werk Room.

Then, the queens had to create additional looks themed to 'Up in Da Club' and 'Fierce Impressions Extravaganza Eleganza' — the latter of which was supposed to a be "show-stopping look" that represented each queen's personal style.
RuPaul, Alan Carr and Michelle Visage were joined on the judging panel by special guest supermodel Kristen McMenamy to evaluate the runway entries.
After sending half the cast back to the Werk Room, RuPaul announced that she had a "surprise" for those left on stage.
Ru then revealed that the queens still on stage — Alexis Saint-Pete, Cara Melle, Ginger Johnson, Michael Marouli and Vicki Vivacious — were actually the Tops for the week and that nobody would be going home.
Instead, RuPaul chose Cara Melle and Vicki Vivacious to Lip Sync for the Win to 'Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit' by Gina G — and Vicki ultimately won the first RuPeter Badge of the season.
"It feels fantastic to win the first RuPeter Badge of season 5. It's real validation," she said.
Before the queens got to dance during the outro, RuPaul warned that the first elimination of the season would definitely happen next week.
