Russell Crowe has revealed his heartache after the death of his beloved horse.

The Gladiator star posted a message on Twitter saying that Honey had passed away at the age of 29.

The actor said the horse – who shared the screen with him in the movie The Water Diviner in 2014 – was “amazing”.

“Some sad news,” he told fans, sharing several pictures of Honey.

“At 29 years of age. Champion cutting horse, mother of two, movie star… my amazing Honey has passed away.

“She spent nearly 22 years of her life living with me.”

Fans rushed to send messages of support after the actor told of his loss.

One tweeted: “I’m so sorry for your loss, Russell.

“Horses are wonderful animals. I love horses too. You gave her a beautiful life, & 29 years is quite good for a horse!”

“Sending you my deepest condolences Mr Crowe,” said another of his followers.

“To lose a beloved pet, but in your case more of a companion, a daughter, which what they become to us is unbearable. She is resting now, waiting by the barn door for you.”
