Jul. 20—Russell Pick was named the next director of golf for Dakota Wesleyan University on Wednesday.

Pick, who is from Kimball, graduated from DWU in May 2018 with a bachelor's degree in business sports management. In his senior year, Pick was named captain of the men's golf team, won All-Great Plain Athletic Conference golfer and finished top five in program history in career scoring average.

While in the process of earning his master's at DWU, Pick was an assistant coach for the golf program. He helped recruit and develop golfers while assisting at tournaments and with practice plans. Pick was recognized as the program's top assistant for the last three seasons.

Pick would obtain his master's degree in education policy and administration from DWU in May of 2020.

In his spare time outside of coaching, Pick still competes competitively, as he advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 SDGA Match Play Championship. The former All-Conference golfer won the 2020 South Dakota Fall Open and has swept the Mitchell City Golf Tournament the past two years.

Pick is replacing fellow DWU graduate and former golfer Tom Hoek, who helped nine Tigers receive All-GPAC accolades, including a trio players during the 2019-2020 season.

Hoek is exiting the golf program to become the director of student life at DWU. In 2008, Hoek earned a bachelor's degree in history and in 2021, earned a master's degree in Education
