The Sister spoilers follow.

ITV's four-part thriller The Sister came to a dissatisfying conclusion tonight (October 29), according to many viewers.

Featuring Russell Tovey (Years & Years) and Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster), this ghostly, murderous tale wasn't short on suspense, but the pay-off had people up in arms complaining over "time wasted" and a "ridiculous" set of events.

After all the twists and turns this week, in the end, Tovey's character Nathan snuck sleeping pills into Bob's (played by Carvel) whiskey before attempting to smother him.

However, Bob dialled 999 when his would-be killer had his back turned, meaning Nathan had to grab the phone and alert the paramedics in the hope that Bob would be dead by the time they showed up.

Nathan later learned that Bob had survived the 'overdose' and suffocation attempt, but he would never wake up from the resulting coma.

The Sister then skipped ahead to reveal that Nathan and Holly (Amrita Acharia) had conceived a child, but while the former was out at night driving, the corpse of Elise could be seen lying in the backseat of his car with her eyes open.

Many, many questions are now on people's minds: do ghosts truly exist and is Elise haunting Nathan?

Either way, the majority of tweets tonight were appalled at the outcome.

The Sister aired on ITV.
