Russia is strategically wearing down the Ukrainian Armed Forces along the entire front to pave the way for a new offensive, Ukraine’s former Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said in an interview with LIGA.net on Nov. 23.

Malyar emphasized the importance of recognizing this tactic and preparing for future developments. The intentional exhaustion by the Russian army serves a purpose beyond the current offensive.

Russians have been carrying out an offensive along five sectors since January 2023, but it is "variable."

"Why? To prevent us from withdrawing troops, ensuring a continuous strain on resources — both in terms of weaponry and personnel. This way, all the weapons provided to us in specific portions would be fully utilized," she said.

The goal of the Russians is to capture all of Ukraine, and they are not giving up on this goal, the former deputy head added.

"The Russian trait, not only in our war but also in other wars, is that they are inadequate in their self-assessment," she said.
