Russia blisters under heatwave

In the city of Pskov, close to the Russian-Estonian border, thermometers hit the 32 degrees Celsius mark.

Last year, the highest daily temperature in Pskov in July was 24 degrees Celsius.

Last month was the warmest June month on record for North America, and the fourth warmest globally, scientists at the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service reported on Wednesday (July 7).

In recent years, scientific advances have allowed researchers to link specific extreme weather events to climate change.
