Russia claims another attempted drone attack on Moscow
Aircraft-type drones tried to attack the Russian capital city of Moscow overnight on Aug. 24, Kremlin-controlled news agency RIA Novosti has reported, citing Russia’s Defense Ministry.
Russia as usual blamed Ukraine for the incident. Ukraine typically denies involvement in such incidents, although drones of known Ukrainian manufacture are regularly spotted in Russian skies.
“Kyiv’s attempt to attack (Moscow) with aircraft-type drones was prevented at night, the Russian Defense Ministry reported,” RIA Novosti wrote.
“Two UAVs were destroyed by air defenses in Bryansk Oblast, and one in Kaluga Oblast.”
The attack is the latest in a spate of incidents involving drones in the Russian capital and in surrounding Russian oblasts.

Explosions rocked Moscow and the surrounding region overnight on Aug. 23, with three drones said to have attacked the Russian capital city.
One of the drones reportedly hit a residential building to the west of central Moscow.
Air defense systems were also activated outside Moscow, with debris from a downed drone damaging a private house in the town of Khimki. Yet another UAV hit a building under construction in the Moskva-City complex.
Before that, explosions were heard in Moscow and the surrounding region during the night of August 21-22.
Blasts were heard in the Strogino district of Moscow and in the city of Krasnogorsk in Moscow Oblast. Reportedly, a residential building on Krasnogorsky Boulevard was damaged as a result of the drone attack.
Moscow’s Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports were again placed under a security lockdown and temporarily closed, which typically happens when unidentified drones are detected in the area.
