Russia confirms flying ace killed in Ukraine

In Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia has buried retired major general and ace pilot Kanamat Botashov, who was killed in Ukraine, according to pro-Kremlin media.

Details: The state news agency published a photo from the funeral.

The local administration announced a farewell ceremony for Botashev, stating that he "died heroically in the performance of his military duty."

Details of Botashev's death have not been disclosed in official statements.

Reference: Botashev is the most high-ranking Russian pilot to be killed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Background: On 24 May Russian media with reference to interlocutors wrote that Botashev had been  shot down over Ukraine and had died.

Until now, the fact of his death had not been officially confirmed.
