Russia to deploy mobilization point on the Russian-Georgian border

Russia’s Interior Ministry has decided to set up a mobilization office exactly where Russians of conscription age are fleeing en masse following dictator Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a "partial" mobilization for his war against Ukraine, Russian media outlet RBC reported on Sept. 27.

RBC, citing the ministry, said a mobilization point was to be deployed at the Verkhny Lars border point, the border crossing closest to the Georgian capital Tbilisi, where thousands of Russian men have already sought refuge.
“A mobilization point of the military registration and enlistment office will be deployed at the Verkhniy Lars border checkpoint on the border with Georgia,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

However, the message didn’t say when the mobilization point would open.
The ministry also said that at the moment there are about 5,500 cars at Russia’s border waiting to cross into Georgia.

Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin announced a "partial mobilization" in Russia on Sept. 21. The call-up came after the Russian army suffered a heavy defeat in Ukraine, losing swathes of formerly occupied territory in Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast.
According to official data from the Russian Defense Ministry, the plan is to draft about 300,000 reservists. However, the part of the published decree ordering the mobilization dealing with the number of draftees is marked only “for official use.”
