The Russians are preparing for a new wave of offensive in Ukraine until 24 February and are scouting the defence capabilities of Ukraine’s Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Zaporizhzhia front.

Quote: "Now they are preparing for maximum activation, taking into account the fact that these are people from the USSR, and they believe that by the anniversary they should have some achievements. It is no secret that they are preparing for a new wave by 24 February, as they say. There is an understanding on which fronts they want to do something."

Details: The Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council noted that, firstly, the invaders have a goal in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, which is to completely go beyond the borders of the oblasts.

In addition, as Danilov reported, the Russian military has been scouting the defence capabilities of Ukrainian forces on the Zaporizhzhia front for a week.

"And now there is a certain concentration of troops. We know this. We understand what is happening in the Russian Federation in this regard," he said.

At the same time, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council stated that Russia already understands that their chances of winning the war against Ukraine are zero.

Previously: Yevhen Yerin, Head of the Joint Press Centre for Ukraine’s Defence Forces on the Tavriya front, stated that there were signs of a strengthening of the grouping of Russian troops on the Zaporizhzhia front. The Russians tried to advance in some areas, but their attacks were repelled.

Background:

  • In early January, Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, said that there were signs that Russia is preparing an escalation in February.

  • Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to the Kremlin, that Russia's new offensive could begin in February or March before Kyiv receives tanks from the United States and Europe.
