Russia’s losses in war against Ukraine exceed 400,000 killed and wounded — UA report
Russia’s losses in the war against Ukraine have reached approximately 412,400 killed and wounded as of Feb. 27, 2024, spokesman for the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Andriy Kovalyov, said in an interview with NV’s sister publication Ukrainska Pravda on Feb. 27
“The General Staff of the Armed Forces releases the enemy’s total combat losses every day,”Kovalyov stated.
“We emphasize that these are the total losses.”
According to him, Russia’s total losses, as published by the General Staff, consist of two main indicators of losses incurred during hostilities: Russia’s irretrievable losses and combat sanitary losses.
During a forum on Feb. 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed Ukraine’s losses for the first time, stating that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since Feb. 22, 2022. He also reported that Russian losses are 180,000 killed and up to 500,000 wounded. These figures differ somewhat from the data of the AFU’s General Staff, which indicates the total losses of the Russian army to be about 410,000 troops.

On Jan. 26, the head of the ruling Servant of the People party, David Arakhamia, proposed disclosing data on Ukraine’s losses during Russia’s full-scale invasion. The figures are supposedly “much lower” than 100,000.
The New York Times previously wrote that U.S. data released in the summer of 2023 indicates Ukraine has lost approximately 70,000 soldiers and sustained 100,000 to 120,000 wounded since Feb. 24, 2022. The report also estimated that Russian losses are roughly double those figures.
