Russia may have used next generation S-400 missile system in devastating overnight attack on Kyiv

Russia could have launched strikes on Kyiv using 48N6 missiles from the S-400 system, Zelenskyy’s chief-of-staff, Andriy Yermak, reported on Telegram on Dec. 13.

“The Russians' target in Kyiv was a critical infrastructure object,” Yermak added later.

“We know where they are hitting.”

Powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv on the night of Dec. 13. Russia attacked the capital with ballistic missiles for the second time in three days. All ten targets were shot down, but over 50 people – including six children – were injured in the attack. Civilian infrastructure was also damaged, including a kindergarten.

The S-400 Triumph is Russia’s new generation long- and medium-range surface-to-air missile defense system. It is used to strike aircraft and ballistic missiles. The cost of one system is about $1.2 billion.
