Russia seeks to recruit 400,000 additional troops, report says

Bloomberg’s sources said that Russia is trying to make up for significant personnel losses, including of contract soldiers.

Another large-scale recruitment drive will help the Kremlin to avoid another mobilization effort, which Moscow estimated would be most politically unpopular.

Currently, the Russian military is focusing on preparing to repel an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive.

On Feb. 21, The New York Times reported that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin plans to draft hundreds of thousands more Russians into the army, calling on them to defend their country from being “taken over by NATO.”

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia plans to conduct a new wave of mobilization, but still faces a lack of qualified officers and modern equipment.
