Russia suffers major equipment losses as Ukrainian forces strike Zoopark radar and Repelent-1 electronic warfare stations

Defense forces near Tavria direction damaged the Russian radar station Zoopark and the electronic warfare (EW) station Repelent-1, Tavria Operational commander Oleksandr Tarnavskyi said on Telegram on Jan. 18.

Russian forces had deployed armored vehicles to support and land infantry, but in three days lost 41 armored vehicles, including 17 tanks.

Overall, Russian losses amounted to 385 personnel and 57 vehicles, along with the radar and EW stations.

Tarnavskyi stated on Jan. 15 that Russian occupiers are attempting to capture Novomykhailivka in Donetsk Oblast, warned earlier that Russian had concentrated its efforts in Donetsk Oblast.

Analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the potential capture of Maryinka by Russian forces could be a “limited tactical achievement” for Russia and does not guarantee advancement westward.

UK intelligence claimed that one of Russia’s operational objectives in the Maryinka area is likely to ensure security on the Oleksandrivka — Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia — Donetsk highways in a bid to eventually advance west towards the city of Kurakhove in Donetsk Oblast.
