Kasciunas writes that Moscow is "inviting" groups of children to "recreational or cultural and educational events" in Crimea in near future.

“Under the guise of a music contest for 12-13 year-old children from Kazakhstan, Israel, Belgium, Morocco, Tajikistan, Egypt, Armenia, and other countries, (Russia) offers trips to Arter summer camp (in Crimea),” said Kasciunas.

He suggests this is a part of Moscow’s attempts to deter a future Ukrainian counteroffensive that could liberate the peninsula. Crimea hosting kids from third countries would serve essentially as “hostages,” the Lithuanian MP concludes.

Kasciunas urged foreign governments to take measures to protect their citizens from being used as props by Russia’ wartime propaganda.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov previously said that Ukraine will liberate Crimea “without a fight,” adding that Ukraine does not consider a purely military operation to take back the peninsula. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Russia's war against Ukraine should end with the liberation of Crimea, just as it began with its occupation.
