Russia’s invading forces have made only minor progress in the Avdiyivka area at the cost of heavy losses of its armored vehicles, the agency said.

Russia's 10th Tank Regiment has probably lost most of its tanks while trying to surround Avdiyivka from the south, said the update.

The regiment is part of the Third Army Corps, created in Aug. 2022 as the first major formation that Russia created to support its invasion of Ukraine.

The Third Army Corps is particularly plagued by problems of poor discipline and low morale. Despite an alleged training period in Belarus, the unit continues to show limited combat capability.

"The 10th Tank Regiment’s losses have likely largely been due to tactically flawed frontal assaults similar to those in other recent failed Russian armored attacks, such as around the town of Vuhledar," the report reads.

British intelligence reported on March 20 that the situation in Avdiyivka could soon resemble Bakhmut. Ukraine’s Defense Forces confirmed the agency's conclusions.

Russian occupation troops have been trying to surround Avdiyivka for almost a year, said the city's military administration.
