Russian assaults on Avdiivka and Pisky fail, hostilities ramp up in Kharkiv Oblast General Staff

On the Kharkiv front, Russian forces are attempting to prevent the Ukrainian Armed Forces from advancing further into the territory they currently control. In Donetsk Oblast, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have thwarted Russian attempts to advance on Avdiivka and Pisky and have repelled a Russian assault on Bakhmut.

Details: Today marks 166th day of Ukraine’s resistance to Russia’s invasion.

There were no significant changes on the Volyn, Polissia and Sivershchyna fronts. On the Sivershchyna front, the Russian forces shelled the areas near the villages of Hremiach and Senkivka in Chernihiv Oblast and near Sukhodil, Manukhivka, Novi Vyrky and Pavlivka in Sumy Oblast. The Russians used UAVs to conduct aerial reconnaissance in the areas near the Ukrainian border.

Russian forces on the Kharkiv front used tank guns, as well as tubed and rocket artillery to prevent the Ukrainian Defence Forces from advancing further into the territory temporarily occupied by the Russians.

The Russians also attacked the areas around the towns and villages of Uda, Svitlychne, Zolochiv, Slatyne, Nove, Borshchova, Ruski Tyshky, Tsyrkuny, Peremoha, Slobozhanske, Chervone, Husarivka and Asiivka.

Russian aircraft carried out airstrikes near Husarivka, Verkhnii Saltiv and Bairak. The Russians used UAVs to conduct aerial reconnaissance near Tsupivka and Ruski Tyshky.

On the Sloviansk front, the Russian forces shelled the areas in and around Velyka Komyshuvakha, Dmytrivka, Virnopillia, Ridne, Dibrivne, Hrushuvakha, Bohorodychne, Nortsivka, Krasnopillia and Mykilsk and conducted an airstrike near Zalyman.

They attempted to improve their tactical positions near Bohorodychne, but were unsuccessful.

On the Donetsk front, the Russians are using all weapons at their disposal to inflict losses on Ukrainian units in the contact zone and to prevent the Ukrainian troops from being transferred to other fronts.

On the Kramatorsk front, the Russian forces used tank guns, as well as tubed and rocket artillery to fire on the areas in and around Kramatorsk, Siversk, Hryhorivka, Verkhnokamianske and Starodubivka. They carried out airstrikes near Hryhorivka and Ivano-Darivka.

On the Bakhmut front, the Russians fired on Ukrainian troops near Bakhmut, Zaitseve, Yakovlivka, Krasnopolivka, Pokrovske and Vershyna; they carried out airstrikes on the areas in and around Bakhmut, Soledar and Kodema.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled Russian assaults on Bakhmut, Zaitseve, Vershyna and Kodema.

On the Avdiivka front, Russian artillery and tanks fired on the areas near Avdiivka, Opytne, Novobakhmutivka, Karlivka, Keramik and Kurakhove. Russian aircraft conducted airstrikes near Niu-York, Krasnohorivka and Marinka.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled Russian attempts to advance on Avdiivka and Pisky, forcing the Russians to retreat.

On the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts, the Russian forces used tanks, as well as tubed and rocket artillery to fire on civilian infrastructure facilities in and around Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Shevchenko, Huliaipilske, Temyrivka, Vremivka, Huliaipole, Malynivka and Novopil. Russian aircraft carried out airstrikes near Prechystivka, Volodymyrivka and Poltavka.

The Russians were forced to retreat after an unsuccessful attempt to break through the defence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Marinka and Shevchenko.

They conducted aerial reconnaissance over the cities of Zaporizhzhia and Pavlohrad.

On the Pivdennyi Buh front, the Russian forces used tank guns and various types of artillery to fire on the areas in and around Mykolaiv, Tavriiske, Lymany, Olexandrivka, Kotliareve, Novomykolaivka, Novohrednieve, Kyselivka, Kobzartsi, Kvitneve, Zelenyi Hai, Andriivka, Ivanivka, Novooleksandrivka, Topolyne and Potemkyne.

Russian aircraft carried out airstrikes near Lozove, Olhyne, Andriivka and Tavriiske. The Russians are actively using UAVs to conduct aerial reconnaissance in the area.

Russian ships in the waters of the Black Sea are focusing their main efforts on supporting Russian ground troops and striking targets across the territory of Ukraine.

Four naval cruise missile carriers armed with high-precision missiles are on standby in the waters of the Black Sea.

Around 10:00 on 8 August, anti-aircraft missile units of the Ukrainian Air Force destroyed four naval-based Kalibr cruise missiles that the Russian army launched from the waters of the Black Sea. One missile was destroyed in Odesa Oblast by soldiers of the Air Command Pivden (South), and the other three were shot down by anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Command Centre.
