Quote: "The current situation in the military theatre and distrust for the high command forced a large number of volunteers to flatly refuse the prospect of service in combat conditions."

Details: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine says that the situation is affected by the information about the actual number of killed Russian soldiers, while the losses of private military companies and those mobilised from temporarily occupied territories are not taken into account.

Also, the situation with sending the troops in has been growing worse due to Russia’s general attitude towards its own wounded. In Russian hospitals, diagnoses and the nature of combat injuries are deliberately simplified, and no time is given for recovery in order to bring the servicemen back to the combat zone as soon as possible.

Background:

  • In late August, Vadym Skibitskyi, the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, said Russia is increasing its mobilisation reserves and plans to mobilise about 90,000 military personnel.

  • At the same time, Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, says there is no need for military mobilisation in Russia against the background of losses and defeats of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

On 11 September, the Armed Forces of Ukraine killed nearly 300 Russian soldiers, destroyed one plane and one unmanned aerial vehicle. Russia’s losses in personnel will soon reach the number of 53,000.
